Brighton is a popular and vibrant destination. The Grand Hotel is sat right on the coast, so guests can step out the front door onto the seafront, with its pebbly beach, the familiar sight of the grade II listed Brighton Pier jutting out into the water, and a host of cafés and bars. A newer addition to the coast is the modern Brighton Marina area, which is a working marina as well as an entertainment district with a cinema, retail and casino. Brighton Dome (29 New Road, Brighton, BN1 1UG; Tel: 01273 700747) within the Royal Pavilion is also a popular venue, offering a calendar of theatre and musical events. The Royal Pavilion also houses Brighton Museum & Art Gallery (Royal Pavilion Gardens, Brighton, BN1 1EE; Tel: 01273 290900). Extensively refurbished, the museum largely exhibits art and textiles, as well as containing activities for children. Of course, the historic Royal Pavilion itself (Brighton, BN1 1EE; Tel: 01273 290900) is worth exploring.
However, for many people the best thing about Brighton is the shopping. Brighton Marina sits on the outskirts of the city centre, but visitors can walk from here, through Kemptown’s shops, towards the Lanes. The Lanes is famous, full of narrow and historic streets and lots of independent stores, antique shops, pubs and restaurants.
